How to Draw a Shape in GoodEvent Layout
This article explains how to draw a shape in GoodEvent Layout. Shapes are most commonly used to map out venue spaces such as rooms, marquees, or outdoor areas. Each shape can be named and given a texture so customers and staff can clearly identify each space on the layout.
Steps
- Click the shape drawing tool — click the house icon at the top of the screen
-
Draw your shape — move your mouse to draw the outline of the space. You can move up, down, left, and right to create any shape you need:
- Distances are measured in metres as you draw
- The tool will snap to help you create clean squares and rectangles, but you can stop on any point on the page to create a custom shape
- Change units if needed — if you need distances in feet instead of metres, go to Settings in the bottom left corner and change the unit preference before drawing
- Choose a texture type — once the shape is created, select a texture from the options available to represent the surface or space type
-
Add a custom name — type a name or label for the shape at the bottom. For example: Main Dining Room, Bar Area, Dance Floor, or Garden Marquee
- ⚠️ Important: Adding a name is important because the label will appear on the layout when you send it to your customer or share it with your team. If you have multiple rooms or spaces, naming each one clearly helps everyone understand exactly what is in each area.

❌ If It's Not Working
- Problem: Distances are showing in metres but you need feet → Fix: Go to Settings in the bottom left corner and change the unit to feet before drawing your shape
- Problem: Shape name is not appearing on the customer layout → Fix: Make sure you added a custom name at the bottom after drawing the shape. Without a name the space will not be labelled on the shared layout.
- Problem: Cannot create the exact shape you need → Fix: The tool will stop on any point on the page — you are not limited to squares or rectangles. Click to set each corner point of your custom shape.
